Chapter 8 - THE FACTORY AT QUEENS

At 11:00 PM, a heavy fog rolled off the East River, cloaking the industrial district of Queens in darkness.

Inside the sprawling, rusted framework of the old textile factory, Arthur Kane sat in a leather chair, surrounded by fifteen heavily armed mercenaries wearing dark tactical gear.

In the corner of the room, Thomas's young sister sat tied to a wooden chair, terrified and weeping softly.

Arthur looked at his gold pocket watch, his face grim and impatient. "Where is Victoria?"

"She's in the car outside, sir," a mercenary replied. "She refused to come inside."

"Foolish girl," Arthur muttered. "Her arrogance at the hotel destroyed twenty years of careful planning. If she hadn't pushed that waitress, Damian Vale would have married her, and the Vale empire would have been ours."

Suddenly, the factory lights flickered once... twice... and died completely!

Total darkness descended upon the warehouse!

"Power cut!" a mercenary shouted, switching on his rifle light. "Get ready!"

Before the guard could raise his weapon, a quiet metallic thwip sounded through the foggy air!

The guard collapsed to the concrete floor without a sound!

Panic erupted among the remaining mercenaries!

"PERIMETER BREACH!" Arthur screamed, drawing his own revolver! "SHOOT ANYTHING THAT MOVES!"

Red laser sights cut through the rising fog as Damian Vale stepped out from the shadows of an upper iron catwalk, flanked by twelve elite Vale security operatives!

"Arthur Kane!" Damian’s voice boomed through the high steel rafters like thunder! "Fourteen years ago, you shot a fourteen-year-old boy and an innocent twelve-year-old girl in a Brooklyn alley! Tonight, the debt comes due!"

"FIRE!" Arthur shrieked!

Automatic rifle fire shredded the iron catwalks, sparks exploding across the dark factory like blinding fireworks!

Damian moved like a shadow among the steel girders, firing precision shots that dropped Kane’s mercenaries one by one with terrifying, lethal efficiency!

Within three minutes, the gunfire ceased.

The remaining mercenaries dropped their weapons, throwing their hands into the air as Vale soldiers surrounded them.

Arthur Kane stood alone in the center of the floor, his revolver trembling in his hand, sweat dripping from his chin.

Damian descended the iron staircase slowly, his black coat immaculate, his pistol held steady at his side.

"Damian..." Arthur gasped, backing away until his spine struck a heavy concrete pillar. "Listen to me... we can make a deal... I'll give you all the Kane holdings... everything!"

Damian stopped five feet away from him, his dark eyes cold and unwavering.

"You tried to murder the woman who saved my life, Arthur," Damian said softly. "There are no deals for men who hunt women and children."

Damian didn't shoot him.

Instead, Marcus stepped forward, presenting a thick manila folder filled with financial records, wiretap transcripts, and physical evidence collected over fourteen years.

Beside Marcus stood two senior federal agents wearing FBI jackets.

"Arthur Kane," the lead agent declared, stepping forward with handcuffs. "You are under arrest for federal racketeering, attempted murder, and state treason."

Arthur’s gun slipped from his fingers, clattering uselessly against the concrete floor as the agents forced him to his knees.
