Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

The fourth-floor corridor of St. Catherine’s Hospital was silent as a tomb.

At the far end of the hallway, Marco DeLuca stepped out of the elevator, flanked by Dr. Christopher Julian and three large, armed security guards in dark overcoats.

Marco was sixty-two, with sharp, fox-like features, cold blue eyes, and a cruel, arrogant smile. He walked with the confidence of a man who believed he was hours away from inheriting a kingdom.

"Ah, Adrian," Marco called out smoothly as he saw his nephew standing alone near the nurse's station. "We came as soon as we heard. Victoria called me in a panic. She said poor Madeline collapsed."

Dr. Julian stepped forward, carrying a leather medical bag. "I brought a specialized hormonal stabilizer, Adrian. We should examine her immediately to ensure there are no... complications."

Adrian didn't move. He stood in the center of the hallway, his hands in his trousers pockets, his broad frame blocking the path to Madeline’s room.

"You're not going into that room, Christopher," Adrian said, his voice so quiet it required everyone to strain to hear it.

Marco frowned, taking a step closer. "Don't be foolish, Adrian. Christopher is our family physician. He has managed our medical needs for thirty years."

"Yes," Adrian agreed, a dark, terrifying smile flickering across his lips. "Thirty years of lying, falsifying medical reports, and taking bribes from a rat."

Marco’s face rigidified. "What did you say?"

Adrian reached into his inner pocket and pulled out the yellowed medical file from fourteen years ago, along with a fresh printout of Madeline’s ultrasound and blood work from thirty minutes ago. He tossed the documents onto the nurse's counter between them.

"Fourteen years ago, Marco," Adrian spoke, every word dripping with lethal precision, "you paid Christopher two hundred thousand dollars to tell my father that the shooting in Miami left me sterile."

Dr. Julian’s face drained of every drop of color. He took an involuntary step backward. "Adrian... that... that is a complete misunderstanding—"

"Shut up, Julian," Marco growled, dropping all pretense of concern. He glared at his nephew, his eyes filled with pure hatred. "So you found out. What does it matter? The old man is dead, Victoria is dying, and you've spent fourteen years playing the brooding, heirless king."

"It matters," Adrian murmured softly, taking a step toward his uncle, "because my wife is sitting in that room right now, healthy, safe, and eleven weeks pregnant with my son."

Marco froze. His eyes darted from Adrian to the ultrasound report lying on the counter.

"Pregnant?" Marco gasped, his voice cracking. "That's impossible! You're... you're supposed to be—"

"I am healthy," Adrian interrupted. "My bloodline is strong. And your thirty-year attempt to steal this family ends today."

Marco’s expression twisted into a sudden, vicious rage. He reached into his coat, signaling his three armed guards to pull their weapons. "Kill him! Make it look like a medical emergency—"

Before Marco’s men could even unholster their guns, ten doors down the hallway swung open simultaneously.

Twenty elite DeLuca security operators—dressed in tactical gear, carrying suppressed rifles, led by Teddy Voss—flooded the corridor, taking up firing positions behind every corner and doorframe. Red laser targeting dots instantly dotted the foreheads and chests of Marco, Dr. Julian, and their three guards.

"Drop your weapons," Teddy commanded coldly over a loudspeaker. "Or we paint these walls with your brains."

The three guards looked at the red dots on their chests, looked at the twenty tactical rifles trained on them, and immediately raised their hands, dropping their handguns onto the linoleum floor.

Dr. Julian fell to his knees, sobbing hysterically. "Adrian, please! It was Marco! He threatened my family! He forced me to sign those papers!"

"Take Julian to the police station," Adrian ordered Teddy calmly. "Deliver the falsified medical files, the bank transfer records, and his confession to the State Medical Board. Ensure his license is revoked by midnight and he spends the rest of his miserable life in a federal prison."

"No! Please! Adrian!" Dr. Julian wailed as two tactical guards dragged him away down the hallway.

Adrian walked up to his uncle Marco.

Marco stood trembling, his arrogant demeanor completely shattered, surrounded by laser dots.

"What are you going to do to me, nephew?" Marco spat, trying to keep his voice steady. "You going to shoot your own blood in a hospital corridor?"

May you like

"No," Adrian said softly, leaning in close to his uncle's ear. "I am going to stripping you of every asset, every warehouse, and every dollar you have ever taken from this family. You are banished from Tennessee, Marco. If you ever set foot in Nashville again... I will personally dig your grave."

Adrian turned his back on his uncle, walking away as Teddy’s men forced Marco into handcuffs and led him away into the dark.
