Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

One year later.
The summer breeze swept across the manicured lawns of the Geneva estate, carrying the fresh scent of pine and blooming white roses.
Down on the wooden pier, little Leo—now a bright, dark-haired toddler with laughing brown eyes—was taking unstable, energetic steps toward the water, clutching a small wooden sailboat in his chubby hands.
“Slow down, little Don!” Eli laughed, standing three feet away with his arms outstretched to ensure the boy didn't tumble into the grass.
Up on the stone patio, Nora sat at a wrought-iron table, sipping iced tea, watching her son with a peaceful smile on her face.
She wore a bright yellow sundress that caught the summer light, her dark hair flowing freely down her back.
Dante walked out from the house, carrying two plates of fresh fruit and pastries. He set them on the table, then walked up behind her chair, wrapping his broad arms around her shoulders and burying his face in the crook of her neck.
“He’s getting fast,” Dante murmured, watching Leo run across the grass.
“He has his father’s energy,” Nora laughed softly, turning her head to kiss his jawline.
Dante smiled, pulling a chair close to hers and sitting down, taking her hand in his. His face looked younger now, the harsh lines of violent tension smoothed away by a year of quiet peace, sunshine, and love.
They had left Chicago behind. The empire was still managed by his family, but Dante had transformed into a private investor, living a quiet, wealthy life far away from the blood and shadows of the city.
“Gabriel called this morning,” Dante mentioned, taking a piece of apple. “The North End port is producing record profits. He offered to buy our remaining shares.”
Nora looked at him, an amused spark in her dark eyes. “And what did you tell him?”
Dante pulled her hand to his chest, locking his fingers with hers, the golden afternoon sun illuminating the simple platinum band on his wedding finger.
“I told him to keep the money,” Dante said softly, looking into his wife’s eyes with absolute, permanent love. “I already have everything I need.”

Nora smiled, leaning over to press her lips to his in a deep, sweet kiss that tasted of summer, peace, and a future built on truth.
Down on the grass, little Leo let out a joyful squeal as his wooden boat splashed into the clear blue water of the lake, his laughter echoing across the quiet shore in the bright, golden light of a brand-new day.
