Chapter 7 - THE DAWN OF A NEW DAY

Three months later.
Spring had arrived in Boston, turning the sprawling lawns of Blackwood Estate into a vibrant carpet of green grass, blooming tulips, and sweet-smelling cherry blossoms.
The heavy tactical guards with automatic rifles were no longer stationed at every corner of the property. The fortress had transformed into a warm, living home.
In the sunlit glass conservatory overlooking the gardens, a grand wooden table was set for breakfast.
Emma sat in a plush armchair, wearing a yellow sundress and small white leather shoes—a gift from Lucas that she refused to take off, even when she went to sleep. She was busy drawing a picture with colored markers on a large sheet of paper.
Clara sat across from her, wearing a soft blue linen dress, sipping green tea as she watched her daughter with a peaceful, radiant smile.
The sound of firm, familiar footsteps echoed down the hallway.
Lucas stepped into the conservatory.
He was no longer wearing dark tactical gear or sharp business suits meant for war. He wore a casual navy cashmere sweater with rolled sleeves and trousers. His hair was soft, his dark eyes filled with a quiet, profound contentment that no amount of wealth or underworld power had ever provided him.
He walked over to Clara, leaning down to press a soft, loving kiss against her lips before sitting down beside her.
"How was your meeting with the legal team?" Clara asked gently, setting her tea cup down.
"The papers are finalized," Lucas revealed, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a leather folder. "The Blackwood foundation has been legally established. Forty percent of all corporate holdings have been permanently redirected into legitimate shipping, real estate, and municipal development funds."
Clara looked at him, her eyes shining with admiration. "You're really stepping away from the syndicate?"
"I’m leaving the street operations to Capo Russo and Moretti," Lucas said firmly, wrapping his arm around Clara’s waist and pulling her close against his side. "I have more important operations to manage now."
"Like what?" Clara smiled playfully, resting her head against his shoulder.
Lucas pointed toward the small girl sitting across the table.
"Look what I drew, Lucas!" Emma squealed happily, sliding her finished drawing across the glass table.
Lucas reached out and picked up the paper.
The drawing showed three figures standing in front of a giant house with a rainbow above it. On the left was a small girl in a yellow dress with big blue eyes. In the middle was a woman with brown hair and a bright pink smile.
And on the right was a tall man in a dark suit, holding the small girl's hand.
Written in wobbly, childish letters at the top of the page was: MY FAMILY.
Lucas stared at the crude crayon drawing, his throat catching hard as a single, warm tear welled up at the corner of his dark eye.
"Do you like it?" Emma asked nervously, chewing on her small lower lip as she watched his reaction.
Lucas set the paper down carefully, as if it were the most valuable piece of art in the entire world. He stood up, walked around the table, and dropped to his knees beside her chair, pulling his daughter gently into his arms.
"I love it, Emma," Lucas whispered into her brown hair, holding her tight against his heart. "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
Emma wrapped her tiny arms tightly around his neck, resting her head against his shoulder.
"Can I ask you something, Lucas?" she whispered into his ear.
"Anything, sweet face," Lucas murmured.
Emma pulled back slightly, her pale blue-gray eyes looking directly into his with absolute, pure trust.
"Can I call you Daddy now?"
Lucas froze. The entire universe seemed to stop spinning for a single, breathtaking second.
He looked over at Clara, who was watching them with tears of joy streaming freely down her beautiful cheeks, nodding gently at him.
May you like
Lucas turned back to his daughter, his hand gently cupping her soft cheek, his heart overflowed with a love so immense it washed away every dark shadow of his past.
"Yes, Emma," Lucas choked out, his voice cracking with pure happiness as he pulled her back into his chest. "You can call me Daddy."
