Chapter 10 - The Queen of the Estate

Six months later.

Summer had arrived in Chicago, transforming the manicured lawns of the Rossi estate into a brilliant, vibrant green. The wrought-iron gates at the front of the property stood tall and pristine, guarded by discreet, armed security teams operating under state-of-the-art protocols.

Inside the grand dining room, sunlight poured through the towering windows, illuminating the long mahogany table laid out for a high-level afternoon conference.

Seated at the head of the table was Leo Rossi, looking sharper and more powerful than ever in a tailored navy suit. Surrounding him were the senior capos and legal advisors of his newly expanded enterprise—a syndicate that now legally controlled seventy percent of the commercial shipping and real estate across three states.

Beside Leo sat Tessa.

She was stunning. She wore an elegant, tailored cream-colored silk dress, her dark hair swept up into a sophisticated knot, a brilliant three-carat diamond ring gleaming on her left ring finger. She sat with perfect poise, reviewing a stack of international logistics contracts with sharp, expert eyes.

Over the past six months, Tessa had not merely stayed; she had transformed. Under Leo’s personal mentorship, her sharp intelligence and meticulous attention to detail had made her the primary manager of the syndicate's legitimate corporate holdings.

"The Montreal dock acquisition is finalized, boss," one of the capos reported respectfully, nodding toward Tessa. "Mrs. Rossi’s restructured tax model saved us four million dollars in international tariffs."

Leo looked at Tessa, his dark eyes brimming with immense pride and devotion. "Excellent work, sweetheart."

Tessa smiled warmly at him, offering a subtle, knowing nod. "Make sure the Canadian port authorities receive their standard security retainers by Friday."

"Yes, ma'am," the capo said, writing down her instructions immediately.

At the far end of the room, standing near the door in a sharp security uniform, was Connor. Clean, healthy, and fully recovered from his injuries, he now worked under Marco’s direct supervision as a junior security manager for the estate's legitimate transport division. He looked at his sister with boundless gratitude and pride.

When the meeting concluded, the capos stood up, bowing politely to Leo and Tessa before exiting the grand room.

The massive oak doors closed, leaving Leo and Tessa alone in the quiet, sunlit room.

Leo stood up from his leather chair, walked around the table, and pulled Tessa gently to her feet, wrapping his strong arms around her waist.

"You ran that meeting like a seasoned boss," Leo murmured softly into her ear, his lips brushing against her neck.

Tessa laughed softly, resting her hands against his chest. "I learned from the best."

Leo looked down into her beautiful, radiant face, remembering the terrified, tear-streaked maid he had found sobbing outside his office door on a freezing November night.

"Do you ever miss it?" Leo asked quietly, stroking her cheek with his thumb. "The quiet life?"

Tessa wrapped her arms around his neck, standing on her tiptoes to press a gentle, loving kiss against his lips.

May you like

"I have everything I ever wanted right here, Leo," Tessa whispered against his mouth. "With my shield."

Leo smiled, tightening his hold on her as they stood together in the sunlit room—no longer boss and maid, no longer master and servant, but equal partners who had conquered the dark together and built a kingdom that would stand forever.
