Chapter 10 - The Reign of Duca

Three months later.

The morning sun slanted brightly through the brand-new floor-to-ceiling windows of Duca Tower's top-floor suite, casting warm, golden light across the fully restored black marble floors. The destruction of that violent night had been entirely erased, replaced by an even grander, more impenetrable fortress designed specifically to shelter its new queen.

Elena stood in front of the massive mirror in the master dressing room, adjusting the collar of a stunning, tailored white silk dress. Her dark hair was styled in elegant, soft waves, falling gracefully over her shoulders.

She reached up, her fingers lightly touching her throat. There were no marks there today—only a breathtaking, custom-cut canary diamond necklace that glittered brilliantly in the morning light, a gift from Matteo that signaled her absolute, untouchable status to the entire world.

She was no longer Elena Donovan, the hyper-efficient corporate assistant hiding behind spreadsheets and polite smiles. She was the undisputed partner to the most powerful man in the city.

The heavy suite doors opened smoothly, and Matteo walked into the dressing room.

He wore a bespoke dark three-piece suit, looking towering, magnificent, and impeccably groomed. The dark, predatory aura still surrounded him, but when his eyes met hers in the mirror reflection, his expression warmed with a deep, absolute devotion that belonged to her alone.

He walked up behind her, wrapping his long arms around her waist, pulling her back against his broad chest, resting his chin gently on her shoulder.

"You look stunning, my love," Matteo murmured, his mouth lightly brushing against the side of her neck, right where the diamond necklace rested.

"Are the cars ready downstairs?" Elena asked, leaning back against his warmth, a calm, confident smile touching her lips.

"Dominic has the motorcade waiting," Matteo replied, his thumb lightly stroking her hip. "The port authority board members are already in the main conference room. Senator Hartwell is personally attending to present the finalized zoning deeds for the Harborside project."

Elena turned around in his arms, wrapping her hands around his lapels, looking directly into his dark brown irises.

"Did you remember to sign the consolidated financial reports I left on your desk this morning?" she asked, a playful, familiar tilt to her tone.

Matteo let out a low, rich chuckle, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss against her lips. "I signed every single page, Elena. I wouldn't dare disappoint my most demanding advisor."

Eighteen months ago, she had entered this tower believing she was just an employee, trapped in a world of rigid boundaries and secret shadows. She had fought against his possessive nature, terrified of losing her freedom to a dangerous mafia don. But standing here now, wrapped in his arms, she understood the truth.

She hadn't lost her freedom; she had found her true place. She had stepped out of the shadows and taken her seat beside the monster who would tear the world apart to keep her safe.

"Let's go downstairs, Mr. Duca," Elena said softly, her fingers tightening around his tie. "We have an empire to run."

Matteo's dark eyes gleamed with absolute, victorious pride. He offered her his arm, holding her close to his side as they walked out of the suite toward the private elevator.

"After you, Mrs. Duca," Matteo whispered softly as the doors closed, sealing them together in their impenetrable world.
