Chapter 9 - The Queen of the Estate

Three months later.
The Grand Ballroom of the Romano residence was once again filled with light, music, and distinguished guests. But the atmosphere tonight was entirely different from the toxic, arrogant gathering of the previous engagement.
Soft romantic string music floated through the air. Beautiful floral arrangements of white lilies and dark red roses decorated every table. The staff moved through the room with genuine smiles, respected and well-compensated by the estate's new management.
Standing at the top of the grand marble staircase was Dante Romano. He wore a crisp dark tuxedo, his hair styled perfectly, looking every bit the sovereign ruler of the city.
Beside him stood Mara Bellini.
She looked breathtaking. She wore an elegant, floor-length emerald green silk gown that hugged her graceful waist, a delicate diamond necklace sparkling against her collarbone. Her dark curls fell in soft ringlets around her shoulders, and her eyes—once filled with fear and exhaustion—now shone with bright, unwavering confidence.
Standing between them, holding both of their hands tightly, was four-year-old Lucia, wearing a matching small green dress and a tiny tiara in her hair.
As the family began their slow descent down the marble staircase, the entire room—consisting of international business leaders, high-ranking officials, and the entire domestic staff of the estate—erupted into warm, genuine applause.
Dante stopped halfway down the stairs, turning Mara toward him. He reached out, his long fingers gently cupping her jaw, looking into her eyes with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat.
"Are you nervous?" he asked softly, his thumb tracing her cheekbone.
"A little," Mara admitted with a soft laugh. "Nineteen months ago, I was sweeping these stairs in a stained apron. Now I am standing here as your wife."
"You were never just a housekeeper to me, Mara," Dante said, his voice deep and sincere. "You were the only light this dark house had seen in thirty years."
Lucia tugged lightly on Dante's trousers. "Mr. Dante! Look! The big cake has a rabbit on it!"
Dante laughed—a genuine, warm sound that surprised even Marco, who was watching from the base of the stairs. Dante leaned down, effortlessly lifting Lucia into his strong arm while keeping his other arm securely around Mara’s waist.
"It certainly does, little princess," Dante smiled. "Because from now on, everything in this house is made for you and your mother."
They reached the floor, where Marco stepped forward with a silver tray holding two glasses of champagne and a small cup of apple juice for Lucia.
"Congratulations, Don Romano. Mrs. Romano," Marco said, bowing his head with absolute, genuine respect. "The entire family honors your union."
Mara smiled warmly at Marco. "Thank you, Marco. For everything you've done for us."
As Marco stepped back into the crowd, Mara turned to Dante, leaning her head gently against his shoulder as the music swelled through the ballroom. "You gave me back my life, Dante. You gave Lucia a home."
May you like
Dante pulled her closer against his side, his gaze scanning the vast room filled with people who now bowed to her name.
"You gave me a soul, Mara," Dante whispered into her ear. "I built an empire out of blood and steel... but I would burn it all to ash in a heartbeat just to keep you safe."
