Chapter 10 - Harbor & Hope

Six months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over Harbor & Ash, reflecting off the sparkling blue waters of the bay.

The outdoor patio was packed with happy guests enjoying brunch, live jazz music, and fresh seafood. Upstairs in the bright, spacious nursery suite, Lily—now fourteen months old—was happily toddling across a plush colorful mat, laughing as she chased a soft wooden toy train.

Nora stood near the host station, wearing an elegant cream-colored dress, holding a leather clipboard as she managed the afternoon reservations.

Everett walked up behind her, gently placing a hand on the small of her back. He wore a sharp grey suit without a tie, his smile relaxed and genuine.

"Everything running smoothly, General Manager?" Everett asked playfully, leaning down to kiss her cheek.

"Perfectly," Nora smiled, resting her head against his shoulder for a brief moment. "We just set a new record for Sunday brunch bookings."

A young waitress walked past, carrying a tray of fresh mimosas, offering Nora a cheerful wave. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was warm, vibrant, and filled with genuine joy—a far cry from the cold, fearful environment that had once ruled the building.

"I have a surprise for you," Everett whispered into her ear, taking her hand and leading her out onto the quiet wooden pier behind the restaurant.

Nora looked at him curiously. "Another surprise? You already launched the regional foundation last week."

Everett brought her to the end of the pier, where the cool ocean breeze carried the scent of salty water and blooming summer flowers. He turned her around to face him, pulling a small black velvet box from his jacket pocket.

Nora’s heart skipped a beat, her breath catching in her throat.

"Everett..."

Everett opened the box, revealing a stunning diamond ring that sparkled brilliantly under the warm sun. He looked into her eyes with a love so fierce and unwavering that tears immediately welled up in Nora's eyes.

"A year ago, I was a bitter, lonely man hiding in a dark office, slowly losing my life," Everett said, his voice filled with deep emotion. "And then a brave, incredible woman walked through my door holding a tiny baby in a pink blanket... and she gave me a reason to live again."

He took her hand, his fingers weaving gently through hers.

"Nora Bennett, you are the most responsible, loving, and fierce mother and woman I have ever known," Everett murmured softly. "Will you and Lily make me the happiest man in the world and become my family forever?"

Nora let out a happy, breathless tearful laugh, throwing her arms around his neck.

"Yes!" Nora cried softly, kissing him deeply as the ocean breeze wrapped around them. "Yes, Everett! A thousand times yes!"

From the second-floor nursery window above, little Lily banged her soft plastic rattle against the glass, letting out a cheerful baby laugh as she watched her mother and Everett hold each other tight under the golden sun—safe, loved, and home at last.
