Chapter 9 - The New Beginning

Victoria’s lead attorney quickly reviewed the documents on the screen, whispered frantically in her ear, and immediately closed his laptop.
"This... this is a fabrication!" Victoria shrieked, her voice shrill with terror as two corporate security guards entered the boardroom.
"The board will now vote on the motion of no confidence," the lead board member declared sternly, ignoring Victoria completely. "All those in favor of removing Everett Calloway?"
Silence. Not a single hand was raised.
"All those in favor of dismissing Victoria Calloway from the board and referring these financial records to the State Prosecutor?"
Every single hand in the room went up instantly.
"The motion carries unanimously," the board member announced, striking the gavel onto the table. "Victoria Calloway is hereby removed."
Security escorted a screaming, hysterical Victoria out of the boardroom, her shoes scuffing against the polished floor as the heavy oak doors closed behind her.
The board members stood up, walking over to congratulate Everett and shake Nora's hand with deep respect.
"Incredible work, Miss Bennett," one senior director remarked. "You just saved this company millions."
"Thank you, sir," Nora smiled graciously.
Within thirty minutes, the boardroom cleared out, leaving only Everett and Nora standing by the massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the misty Boston skyline.
Everett looked at Nora, a soft, profound expression softening his handsome features.
"You were extraordinary today," Everett said quietly, stepping closer to her. "You didn't just save my company, Nora... you saved me again."
Nora looked up into his warm hazel eyes, feeling a deep, thrilling spark dancing between them.

"I just did my job, Mr. Calloway," she murmured softly.
"Call me Everett," he requested gently, reaching out to gently cup her face with his hand, his thumb softly brushing against her cheek. "Please."
