Chapter 4 - An Offer of Redemption

Nora walked over slowly and sat in the soft leather chair, resting Lily comfortably against her shoulder.

"Mr. Calloway," Nora said quietly, her voice trembling slightly. "I... I don't know what to say. I'm sorry about the mess outside, and I'm so sorry I brought Lily tonight. I was truly desperate—"

"Stop apologizing, Nora," Everett cut her off gently. "You have nothing to apologize for."

He reached into his desk drawer, pulled out a clean glass of water, and pushed it across the polished oak desk toward her.

"I know your work record," Everett said, leaning back in his chair and folding his hands. "You started here three years ago as a line server. Within eighteen months, you tripled our private event bookings. You’ve worked six days a week, took night courses in hospitality management, and never once complained."

Nora looked down at her lap, her eyes burning with unshed tears. "I just wanted to build a stable life for my daughter."

"And you did it while dealing with an abusive environment under Melissa," Everett said, his jaw tightening slightly. "I checked the shift logs. She gave you the worst schedules, cut your commission on corporate events, and constantly threatened to terminate you whenever you asked for time off for your daughter's medical appointments."

Nora swallowed hard, tears finally slipping down her cheeks. "I was afraid if I complained, I would lose my healthcare benefits. Lily was born with a respiratory condition... her hospital bills were overwhelming."

Everett watched her closely, a deep, unreadable emotion passing through his hazel eyes. He picked up a gold pen and signed a document sitting on his desk.

"Harbor & Ash is a multi-million-dollar flagship restaurant," Everett stated smoothly. "Starting effective immediately, Melissa Grant is officially terminated."

He pushed the signed document across the desk toward Nora.

"And you, Nora Bennett, are the new General Manager of Harbor & Ash."

Nora froze, staring at the paper in utter disbelief. "What?"

"Your salary will be tripled," Everett continued, his voice calm and resolute. "You will receive full corporate profit-sharing, a complete health insurance package covering all of Lily's medical expenses, and flexible working hours."

"Mr. Calloway..." Nora stammered, her voice shaking. "I... I don't have a master's degree in management yet! I can't take this role—"

"You've been running the operational side of this restaurant for a year while Melissa took the credit and stole the money," Everett said firmly. "You are more than qualified. And most importantly, you have integrity."

He looked at little Lily, who let out a tiny, soft sigh in her sleep.

"Besides," Everett added with a soft, rare smile, "I owe the young lady on your lap a life debt. Consider this the first installment."
