Chapter 9 - The Siege of Queens

Midnight brought a storm of blood to the Port of New York.
Silas Sterling did not send a surrogate. He led the strike team himself. Accompanied by forty heavily armed enforcers, Silas invaded the sprawling shipping terminal controlled by the Russian syndicate.
The assault was surgical, brutal, and absolute.
Within forty-five minutes, the terminal was reduced to a burning graveyard of industrial shipping containers. Nikolai’s lieutenants were eliminated one by one, their defenses crumbling against the overwhelming firepower and strategic brilliance of Silas’s forces.
In the central warehouse office overlooking the docks, Silas cornered Nikolai—a bloated, aging mobster clutching a bleeding abdominal wound behind a overturned steel desk.
Silas walked into the room slowly, his long coat fluttering in the cold sea breeze blowing through shattered windows. He carried no rifle, only his custom black pistol held casually at his side.
"Sterling..." Nikolai wheezed, coughing up blood onto the concrete floor. "You... you think you can control this city forever? There will always be someone younger, someone hungrier..."
Silas stopped five feet from the dying man. His face was cold, devoid of anger or pride. He looked at Nikolai not with hatred, but with the clinical detachment of an executioner.
"Hunger makes men dangerous, Nikolai," Silas said softly, the image of a trembling girl clutching a plate of Wagyu in his freezing pantry flashing through his mind. "But love makes a man immortal."
Silas raised his pistol and pulled the trigger.
By three o'clock in the morning, the Russian syndicate in New York ceased to exist. Its assets were absorbed, its leadership wiped out, its territory unified under the absolute rule of Silas Sterling.
Silas stood on the dock edge, watching the flames from the burning shipping containers reflect off the dark waters of the harbor. Viktor walked up beside him, wiping sweat and gunpowder from his face.
"It's done, boss," Viktor said, his voice laced with immense respect. "The city is yours. No one will dare challenge you again."
May you like
Silas turned, looking back toward the long highway leading out to Long Island.
"The city was already mine, Viktor," Silas said, stepping into the back seat of his armored sedan. "Take me home."
