Chapter 5 - The Snake's Last Strike

Two weeks had passed since the night of the eviction. The Beverly Hills mansion had undergone a complete transformation. Ryan had fired the entire previous staff who had complied with Linda and Rachel’s abusive demands, replacing them with a elite, highly vetted team of professional housekeepers, private chefs, and groundskeepers who treated Emily with the absolute reverence due to the mistress of the house.

Emily had spent those two weeks resting, regaining her health, and reconnecting with her old passion for landscape design and organic gardening. The raw marks on her hands had healed under specialized medical care, replaced by soft skin and a restored sense of peace.

However, Ryan knew that parasites rarely vanish without a fight.

Sitting in his executive office on the top floor of the Vance Tower in downtown Los Angeles, Ryan was reviewing the quarterly earnings of his restaurant group when Marcus knocked firmly on the glass door.

"Ryan, we have a situation," Marcus said, stepping into the room with a severe expression. He placed a tablet on Ryan’s desk. "Your sister Rachel and Ethan just went live on a major national tabloid television network. They are currently giving an exclusive interview."

Ryan’s eyebrows pulled together in a tight line. He tapped the screen, unmuting the video feed.

On the screen sat Rachel and Linda, dressed in modest, worn clothes that looked deliberately chosen to evoke sympathy. Rachel was sobbing dramatically into a tissue while a sensationalist talk-show host shook his head in orchestrated dismay.

"...he abandoned us!" Rachel cried into the camera, her voice full of theatrical grief. "The moment my brother Ryan made his billions, he changed. He fell under the influence of his wife, Emily, who turned him against his own blood! We gave up our lives to manage his household, and the moment he returned from overseas, he threw his elderly mother out onto the street! They confiscated our personal belongings, froze our bank accounts, and left us destitute!"

Linda chimed in, holding a handkerchief to her dry eyes. "I raised Ryan as a single mother working two jobs! I gave him everything! And now, his wife won't even let me see my son. She treated us like dirt in that house, forcing us to do heavy labor while she lived in luxury!"

The lower third graphic on the screen flashed in bright red letters: BILLIONAIRE RYAN VANCE ACCUSED OF ABUSING ELDERLY MOTHER AND DESTROYING FAMILY.

Marcus looked at Ryan nervously. "Our public relations team is already receiving calls from major news networks, luxury brand partners, and investors. The story is going viral on social media. People are threatening to boycott our luxury restaurant locations across the country. Stock prices for our commercial real estate fund dropped three percent in the last hour."

Ryan watched the screen for a moment, his face entirely unreadable. There was no panic in his eyes, no sign of anger. Instead, a cold, calculated smile slowly spread across his lips.

"They really thought I wouldn't anticipate this," Ryan said softly, leaning back in his executive chair.

"What do you want to do?" Marcus asked. "Should we issue a formal corporate press release denying the allegations?"

"No," Ryan replied, standing up and buttoning his suit jacket. "A press release looks like damage control. A press release looks defensive. We aren't going to defend ourselves, Marcus. We are going to destroy them publicly."

"How?"

"Call a live, international press conference at the Beverly Hills estate tomorrow at ten in the morning," Ryan ordered, his eyes shining with lethal intelligence. "Invite every major television network, every entertainment news outlet, and every financial journalist in California. Tell them Ryan Vance and his wife, Emily, will be releasing a full, unedited statement regarding the family dispute."

"And what about the evidence?" Marcus asked.

"Call our head of estate security," Ryan smiled coldly. "Tell him to pull the full, high-definition audio and video security logs from the outdoor kitchen, the dining hall, and the driveway over the last forty-eight months. It’s time to show the world what kind of 'elderly mother' Linda Vance really is."
