Chapter 7 - THE MORETTI ALLIANCE

The aftermath of Marcus’s betrayal left a vacuum within the Vale organization. Adrian worked tirelessly over the following week, purging any remaining corrupt elements from his ranks and solidifying his absolute control over the city’s underworld.
Throughout the chaos, Clara remained at the center of the estate, taking sole responsibility for Noah’s care. The bond between the young woman and the child grew stronger with each passing day. Noah was now eating normally, gaining weight, and laughing whenever Clara sang to him.
However, the constant danger hanging over the household took a heavy toll on Clara. She found it difficult to sleep, often sitting up in the middle of the night, staring out the nursery window at the foggy grounds below.
One night, around 2:00 AM, Adrian entered the nursery quietly. He was dressed in a casual charcoal sweater and dark pants, looking less like a feared mob boss and more like a tired, protective father.
He found Clara sitting in the rocking chair, holding Noah against her shoulder.
"You should be resting, Clara," Adrian said softly, stepping closer. "My men are patrolling every inch of the perimeter. You are safe here."
Clara looked up, offering a weary smile. "It's hard to sleep when you know there are people out there who want to harm this baby, Mr. Vale."
Adrian pulled up a chair and sat beside her. He looked down at Noah, reaching out a hand to gently touch the infant’s tiny fingers. Noah stirred slightly, grasping Adrian’s large thumb with surprising strength.
A rare, warm smile appeared on Adrian’s face. "He has a strong grip. Like his father."
"He looks very much like you," Clara noted quietly. "He has your eyes."
Adrian’s expression softened as he looked from his son to Clara. "You saved his life, Clara. Not just once, but every day since you brought him back from the brink of starvation. I can never truly repay you for what you've done."
"You don't owe me anything, sir," Clara replied. "I love him as if he were my own."
The words escaped her lips before she could filter them. Clara blushed, suddenly embarrassed by her confession. She looked away, expecting Adrian to reprimand her for being overly sentimental.
Instead, Adrian reached out and gently laid his hand over hers.
"I know you do," Adrian whispered, his eyes searching hers with an intensity that made her heart race. "And that is why I want you to stay. Permanently."
Clara felt a flutter in her chest. "As his nanny?"
"As more than that," Adrian revealed, his voice low and serious. "The Moretti family will not stop until they see my bloodline destroyed. They believe I am vulnerable because I am a single father without a mother for my heir. They are planning to challenge my territory at the upcoming underworld council meeting next week."
Clara frowned, sensing where the conversation was heading. "What are you suggesting, Mr. Vale?"
"I am proposing a legal alliance," Adrian said clearly. "I want you to marry me, Clara."
Clara’s breath hitched in her throat. She stared at him, completely stunned. "Marry you? But... I'm just a maid! People will think—"
"I don't care what people think," Adrian interrupted firmly. "If we are married, you will have the full protection of my name, my legal fortune, and my security network. No one will ever be able to question your right to be with Noah. And more importantly, it will show my enemies that my family is whole, unbreakable, and protected."
"Is this just a business arrangement to you?" Clara asked, her voice dropping to a delicate whisper, a slight trace of hurt in her tone.
Adrian looked deep into her eyes, his thumb gently stroking the back of her hand.
"It started as a necessity," Adrian admitted honestly. "But looking at you right now, holding my son... I realize that you have become the heart of this house, Clara. I cannot imagine this family without you."
May you like
Clara looked down at Noah, who was sleeping peacefully between them, and then back into the steady, fierce eyes of Adrian Vale. She knew the danger of stepping into his world, but she also knew that her heart already belonged to the baby—and perhaps, slowly, to the dark, fiercely protective man sitting beside her.
"Yes," Clara whispered softy. "I will marry you."
