Chapter 9 - THE SIEGE OF VALE MANOR

The chapel descended into absolute chaos. Smoke filled the air, mixed with the smell of gunpowder and shattered glass. Adrian fired three precise shots, neutralizing two attackers who were attempting to advance toward the altar.

"Dr. Brooks! Take Noah to the armored panic room beneath the altar! Go now!" Adrian shouted over the deafening roar of gunfire.

Clara handed the baby to Dr. Brooks, who ducked low and hurried toward the heavy steel trapdoor hidden behind the altar podium.

"Clara, stay behind me!" Adrian commanded, pulling another magazine from his jacket and reloading his weapon with lightning speed.

"I’m not leaving you, Adrian!" Clara yelled back, grabbing a heavy brass cross from the altar table to defend herself if anyone got close.

Three more heavily armed mercenaries burst through the main doors of the chapel. Leading them was a tall, scarred man wearing an expensive Italian suit—Dominic Moretti, the head of the rival Moretti crime syndicate.

"Adrian Vale!" Dominic shouted, a cruel smile spreading across his scar-covered face. "Your empire ends today! I took your wife six weeks ago, and now I’m going to take your new bride and your life!"

Adrian’s eyes burned with a terrifying, demonic fury upon hearing Dominic confess to Elena’s murder.

"You insolent bastard," Adrian snarled, his voice vibrating with absolute malice.

Adrian stepped out from behind the altar, exposing himself to fire, and began advancing toward Dominic with terrifying calm, firing ruthlessly at the surrounding mercenaries. His speed and accuracy were inhuman; every shot found its target, taking down Dominic’s guards one by one.

Dominic’s smile vanished, replaced by sudden panic as he realized his men were being slaughtered. He raised his weapon to shoot Adrian, but Clara, acting on pure instinct, threw the heavy brass cross with all her strength.

The heavy object struck Dominic sharply in the face, breaking his nose and causing his shot to go wild, bullet shattering the wall above Adrian’s head.

Capitalizing on the distraction, Adrian closed the distance in a fraction of a second. He grabbed Dominic’s gun hand, twisting it viciously until the bone snapped, forcing Dominic to scream in agony as he dropped the weapon.

Adrian grabbed Dominic by the throat, slamming him violently against the marble pillar of the chapel.

"You touched my family," Adrian growled, his voice deep and lethal. "You plotted against my son. You murdered Elena. And you threatened my wife."

"Adrian... wait... please..." Dominic choked out, his eyes bulging with fear as he struggled to breathe.

"There is no mercy for people like you in my world," Adrian said coldly.

With a swift, decisive motion, Adrian ended the threat once and for all, letting Dominic’s lifeless body slump to the marble floor.

The gunfight subsided, leaving the chapel in dead silence, save for the sound of crackling glass and heavy breathing. Adrian’s surviving guards quickly secured the perimeter, confirming that all enemy combatants had been neutralized.

Adrian turned around, his hands covered in blood, his breathing heavy. He looked at Clara, who stood near the altar, her silk wedding dress stained with dust and small specks of blood.

He hesitated, suddenly conscious of the violence he had just displayed in front of her. "Clara... I..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Clara ran across the bloodstained marble floor and threw her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly.

Adrian froze for a second, surprised by her reaction, before wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her close against his chest.

"You protected us," Clara whispered softly into his shoulder, her body trembling slightly from the adrenaline. "You kept us safe."

Adrian closed his eyes, burying his face in her soft hair, feeling a deep, profound peace wash over his dark soul for the very first time in his life.
