Chapter 10 - The Heir of the Syndicate

Six months later.

The Mediterranean sun flooded the marble terrace of the Costa island estate, painting the turquoise sea in brilliant, sparkling gold. The air was warm, sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine and salty sea breeze.

I stood by the white stone balustrade, wearing a loose, flowing yellow summer dress that swept gently around my ankles. My hand rested softly over my rounded stomach.

Four months pregnant.

A miracle conceived during those wild, passionate nights in Italy, amidst the blood, fire, and chaotic birth of our new life together.

Behind me, the double glass doors opened.

My father stepped out onto the terrace, holding a cup of herbal tea. Thanks to the cutting-edge experimental treatments Lorenzo had secured from top specialists in Switzerland, his cancer had gone into full remission. He looked younger, healthier, his eyes bright with a peace he hadn't known in decades.

"You should be sitting down, sweetie," my father scolded gently, walking over to kiss my cheek. "Lorenzo will have my head if he sees you standing out in the heat."

I laughed softly, leaning into his side. "Lorenzo worries too much. The doctor said walking is good for me."

"The doctor said light walking, not standing in the midday sun," a deep, smooth voice corrected from the doorway.

We both turned. Lorenzo walked out onto the terrace, looking impossibly handsome in a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He walked straight over to me, completely ignoring the scenic view, his dark eyes fixed entirely on my face.

He slipped his broad arm around my waist, pulling me gently against his side, his large, warm hand instantly coming to rest over my swollen stomach.

"How are you feeling today?" he murmured softly against my hair, his touch filled with a delicate tenderness that still surprised me every single day.

"We are feeling wonderful," I replied, covering his hand with mine. "The baby has been kicking all morning."

Lorenzo’s dark eyes lit up with an intense, fierce joy. He immediately knelt down on one knee on the marble floor, pressing his hand flatter against my belly, leaning in to press a lingering kiss against the fabric of my dress right over my bump.

"Listen to your mother, little one," Lorenzo whispered against my stomach, his low voice vibrating through my skin. "She is the real boss of this family."

My father chuckled softly, raising his teacup in a silent toast before quietly slipping back inside the villa to give us privacy.

"Ethan called from MIT an hour ago," I mentioned, running my fingers through Lorenzo’s dark, thick hair as he stood back up to wrap his arms around me from behind. "He got top marks on his midterm engineering project. He said he's coming home for the winter break."

"I know," Lorenzo murmured, resting his chin on my shoulder, looking out at the vast ocean together. "I already ordered the private jet to pick him up."

I turned slightly in his arms, wrapping my hands around his neck, looking into those deep, pitch-black eyes that had once terrified me in a dark hospital garage.

"You've given us everything, Lorenzo," I whispered softly. "My father's life. My brother's future. A home where we can finally breathe without fear."

Lorenzo looked down at me, his gaze softening into a depth of love that made my breath hitch in my throat. He reached up, his long fingers gently catching a stray strand of hair, tucking it behind my ear—the exact same gesture he had made on the night we met in his dark office.

"You gave me a life worth living, Aurora," Lorenzo said, his voice dipping into a low, velvet hum. "Before you jumped into my car, I was just a ghost running a violent empire. You gave me a home. You gave me a family."

He leaned down, pressing his lips to mine in a slow, sweet, possessive kiss that made the rest of the world fade away into absolute background noise.

When he pulled back, his hand rested securely over our unborn child—the future heir to the Costa legacy, born not of crime or blood obligations, but of a fierce, unshakeable love forged in the middle of a storm.

"I love you, Don Lorenzo," I whispered against his lips.

"I love you, my sweet nurse," Lorenzo replied, pulling me closer against his heart as the warm Mediterranean wind swept around us. "Forever."
