Chapter 5 - The Villa in Tuscany

Twenty-four hours later, the chilly storm of the city was replaced by the warm, amber glow of the Tuscan countryside.

Lorenzo’s private compound in Italy was vast, nestled high on a hill surrounded by endless vineyards and olive groves. Yet, despite the breathtaking scenery, it was no less a fortress than his city estate. Armed guards walked the perimeter with trained attack dogs, and high-tech security cameras swept every entrance.

Ethan was currently down at the guest house pool, completely enchanted by the luxury, still under the impression that Lorenzo was a high-level corporate security executive protecting us from industrial espionage.

I stood on the stone balcony of my new suite, staring out at the setting sun casting long, golden shadows across the hills.

A quiet step behind me announced Lorenzo's presence. He had traded his bloody suit for a simple black linen shirt and dark trousers, looking effortlessly commanding.

"You should be resting," I said without turning around. "Those stitches need time to heal."

"They're fine," Lorenzo replied, walking up to stand beside me at the stone balustrade. "You did an excellent job. My personal doctor was impressed."

"I do my job well."

"Indeed you do."

Silence settled between us, surprisingly comfortable compared to the chaos of the previous night.

"What happens when we find him?" I asked softly, turning to face him. "My father. What will you do to him?"

Lorenzo’s jaw tightened slightly. "He stole forty million dollars and exposed my family's logistics network to our enemies, Aurora. In my world, treason is punishable by death."

My heart sank. "He's my father, Lorenzo! I spent seven years grieving a man I thought was dead! You can't ask me to help you track him down just so you can execute him!"

"I am not asking for your help," Lorenzo said, his voice dropping into a hard, uncompromising tone. "I brought you here to keep you safe from the Valentis. They don't want to question Arthur—they want to kill him and everyone who carries his blood. That includes you. That includes Ethan."

"And you're any better?" I snapped, stepping closer, my voice rising with emotion. "You hold us captive, you force us across the world, and you threaten the only family I have left!"

Lorenzo grabbed my arm, pulling me gently but firmly toward him so there was barely an inch between us. "If I wanted to hurt your family, Aurora, I would have dropped you on the street for the Valentis to dissect. Look at me!"

I glared up at him, my breathing ragged, tears burning the back of my eyes.

"I have burned down entire syndicates for far less than what your father did," Lorenzo said, his eyes burning with an intense, raw emotion that startled me. "But I am keeping you safe. I am keeping your brother fed and protected. Do not mistake my restraint for indifference."

"Why?" I whispered, my voice trembling. "Why do you care so much about keeping me safe?"

Lorenzo stared down at me, his gaze dropping to my lips before rising back to meet my eyes with a fierce, intoxicating intensity.

"Because from the second you looked at me in that dark car, terrified yet standing your ground, you became the only thing in this miserable war I actually give a damn about."

My breath hitched.

Before I could process his words, Lorenzo reached out, his hand cupping the back of my neck, tilting my head up as his lips came down on mine.

The kiss was wild, intense, and filled with a desperate, pent-up passion that had been building between us since the night we met. It wasn't gentle—it was demanding, possessive, and overwhelming. Yet, I didn't pull away. I wrapped my arms around his neck, fingers tangling in his dark hair, pulling him closer as a shiver ran through my entire body.

Lorenzo groaned softly against my mouth, his arms wrapping tightly around my waist, lifting me slightly off my feet, pressing me against his solid frame. The world outside dissolved into nothingness—the mafia, the danger, my father—leaving only the heat of his skin, the taste of his lips, and the thundering rhythm of our hearts beating together.

When he finally pulled back, resting his forehead against mine, both of us were breathing heavily. His dark eyes were filled with a raw vulnerability he rarely showed.

May you like

"You are playing with fire, Aurora," he murmured raspy against my lips.

"Then let me burn," I whispered back, completely surrendered to the dark spell he had cast over me.
