Chapter 6 - THE TRUTH UNLEASHED

CRASH.

The heavy brass vase shattered the floor-to-ceiling glass panel of the study door into ten thousand glittering projectiles.

The sudden, deafening explosion of glass startled the mercenaries. Two of the armed men instinctively spun around, raising their rifles toward the balcony.

That one-second distraction was all Alejandro needed.

With the speed of a striking viper, Alejandro grabbed the barrel of Hector’s silver revolver, twisting it upward as a shot detonated harmlessly into the plaster ceiling.

Alejandro drove his right elbow into Hector’s jaw with crushing force, sending his cousin sprawling across the mahogany desk. Before the surrounding mercenaries could react, Alejandro swept his empty pistol off the desk, jammed it under the chin of the nearest guard, pulled the tactical knife from the man's vest, and drove it into the chest of another.

The study erupted into violence.

Valeria didn't stand by watching. She grabbed a heavy bronze desk lamp from the broken entryway and slammed it against the back of a mercenary who was raising his rifle toward Alejandro.

The man grunted, turning around with a snarl, grabbing Valeria by her shirt collar and throwing her backward onto the floor.

"Valeria! Get out!" Alejandro thundered, taking down another gunman with a brutal throat strike.

Hector scrambled off the desk, his jaw bleeding, his eyes wild with frantic panic. He picked up his revolver from the floor, pointed it at Valeria, and pulled the trigger.

CLICK.

The chamber was empty.

Hector cursed, dropping the useless gun. Realizing the coup was falling apart, he turned and ran toward the private panic room exit at the rear of the study—a hidden elevator that led directly to the estate’s underground garage.

"He's running!" Valeria gasped, pushing herself off the floor despite her aching shoulder.

Alejandro stepped over the unconscious mercenaries, his white shirt soaked in blood, his face covered in soot and sweat. He ran toward the panic room entrance, but the heavy steel security door slammed shut, its digital lock glowing bright red.

"He's taking the garage elevator," Alejandro growled, slamming his fist against the steel door. "He has an armored SUV down there."

"Alejandro! Look at me!" Valeria shouted, grabbing his bloody arm, forcing him to look at her.

Alejandro turned, his eyes wild with adrenaline and rage. "Valeria, stay back—"

"Read this!" Valeria demanded, pulling the three-page letter from her apron and slapping it against his chest. "Read what Sofia wrote before she died!"

Alejandro stopped.

He looked down at the parchment paper in his hands. He recognized the handwriting instantly. The wild rage in his eyes vanished, replaced by an overwhelming, breathless shock as he stared at his dead wife’s fluid blue ink.

"Where... where did you get this?" Alejandro whispered, his hands trembling violently.

"In the old nursery on the third floor," Valeria explained quickly, her voice tight. "Hidden behind the books. Sofia wrote it before the attack! She found out Hector was stealing millions! She knew he was going to kill her! And she left the proof for you!"

Alejandro’s eyes scanned the pages. He read Sofia’s words—her warning, her love, her desperate plea to protect Mateo.

Tears cut clean tracks through the soot on his face.

For two years, he had believed Sofia died because of his sins—because he was a cartel boss whose violent world had caught up with him. He had spent seven hundred and thirty days carrying the crushing weight of his own failure.

Now, reading her final words, he knew the truth.

Sofia hadn't died because of his world. She had been murdered by a coward who wanted his money.

Alejandro folded the letter carefully, tucking it close to his heart inside his suit jacket.

When he looked up, his face was no longer filled with frantic rage. It was carved from cold, absolute granite.

"Marco!" Alejandro roared into his tactical shoulder radio.

The radio crackled to life. "Don Alejandro! The main hall is secured! Our outer guards have retaken the gates!"

"Lock down the underground garage," Alejandro ordered, his voice echoing with absolute, terrifying authority. "Disable the main driveway gates. Hector is coming down in the service elevator. I want him trapped inside."

"Understood, Don."

Alejandro turned to Valeria. He reached out, his broad, bloodied hand gently cupping her face, his thumb softly brushing a smudge of soot from her cheek.

"Thank you, Valeria," Alejandro whispered, his amber eyes burning with a deep, profound emotion. "You brought my wife’s voice back to me."

"Go finish it," Valeria said quietly. "I'm going back to Mateo."

Alejandro nodded once. He picked up a fresh assault rifle from a fallen mercenary, slapped a full magazine into the receiver, and walked out of the study toward the garage stairs like an unstoppable force of nature.
