Chapter 7 - Shadows Cleared

By dawn, the news of Julian Vane’s arrest swept through the regional news networks. The Vane Syndicate—a dark cloud that had hung over the state for two decades—was completely dismantled in a single night, its assets seized and its victims liberated.
At Blackwood Estate, the sun broke through the storm clouds, painting the gardens in soft shades of pink and gold.
Ivy sat on the outdoor terrace overlooking the rose gardens, wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket, sipping warm tea. The terror that had haunted her for five long years—the constant fear of being hunted by Vane—was finally gone. She was free.
Soft steps sounded behind her.
Ronan walked out onto the terrace. He had showered, dressed in a comfortable dark sweater and trousers, looking calm and relaxed.
He walked over, sitting beside her on the stone bench, pulling her into his arms. Ivy rested her head on his shoulder, letting out a long, peaceful breath.
“It’s over,” Ivy whispered softly.
“It’s over,” Ronan confirmed, kissing her temple gently. “Vane will never see the light of day again. Your past is clean, Ivy. You don't have to hide anymore.”
Ivy looked up at him, her green eyes filled with deep, overwhelming gratitude.
“Thank you, Ronan. For protecting me. For protecting my work.”
“You protected yourself five years ago by being brilliant,” Ronan corrected gently, holding her face in his hands. “I just provided the army to back you up.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a sleek velvet box—different from the one that held the emerald necklace.
Ivy’s heart gave a sudden, hard thud against her ribs.
Ronan opened the box.
Inside sat a breathtaking ring—a flawless three-carat oval diamond set on a simple, elegant platinum band, glowing warmly in the morning light.
Clara stared at it, her breath catching in her throat.
Ronan slid down onto one knee before her on the stone terrace, holding the ring, looking up into her eyes with an intensity that made the rest of the world melt away.
“Ivy Lancaster,” Ronan said, his deep voice thick with emotion. “Three weeks ago, you were a maid in my house, quietly keeping my world from falling apart. Today, you are the most powerful, brilliant, and magnificent woman I have ever known.”
He took her bandaged hand into his, his thumb tracing her skin with absolute reverence.
“I don't want an empire without you, Ivy. I don't want a future that doesn't have your smile in it. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
Tears of pure, overwhelming joy spilled from Ivy’s eyes, running down her soft cheeks. For years, she had believed she was destined to live alone in the dark, unloved, unseen, and rejected.
Now, standing before the most powerful man in the city, she was cherished beyond measure.

“Yes,” Ivy whispered, her voice breaking with happiness. “Yes, Ronan! Absolutely yes!”
Ronan slipped the ring onto her finger—a perfect fit. He stood up, wrapped his arms around her waist, lifted her voluptuous frame into his arms, and kissed her with a passion that echoed across the quiet beauty of the estate gardens.
