Chapter 8 - The Transformation

Six months later.
The Blackwood Consortium had undergone a complete transformation. Under Ivy’s leadership as Chief Risk Strategist, the company had divested from all legacy high-risk sectors, reinvesting hundreds of millions into green maritime logistics, worker education programs, and community development.
The city of Grayhaven was thriving like never before.
In the executive suite of Blackwood Tower, Ivy sat behind a massive glass desk, reviewing quarterly reports. She looked radiant, wearing a tailored lavender dress suit that perfectly complemented her figure, her diamond engagement ring sparkling under the office lights.
Her assistant knocked on the door.
“Director Blackwood—excuse me, Director Lancaster,” the assistant smiled warmly. “Your guests have arrived for the foundation board meeting.”
“Send them in, Sarah,” Ivy smiled.
The door opened, and a group of community leaders walked in, led by Mrs. Gable, the director of the Harbor House Community Center.
“Ivy!” Mrs. Gable beamed, walking over to embrace her warmly. “Look at you! Running the whole city!”
“I’m just keeping the numbers honest, Mrs. Gable,” Ivy chuckled softly, hugging the older woman back.
“The new community wing you funded opened yesterday,” Mrs. Gable said, tears of gratitude in her eyes. “Fifty children have after-school tutoring and hot meals every day now. You changed their lives, Ivy.”
“We changed their lives,” Ivy corrected gently. “The Blackwood Foundation belongs to the people of Grayhaven now.”
As the meeting proceeded, Ivy handled the complex logistics with effortless grace, allocating grants, setting up oversight committees, and ensuring every dollar reached the people who needed it most.
Standing near the glass wall of the office, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed over his chest, was Ronan.
He had walked in quietly ten minutes prior, refusing to interrupt her. He watched his fiancée lead the room with an expression of pure, unadulterated adoration.
When the meeting concluded and the guests departed, Ronan walked over to her desk.
Ivy stood up, walking around the desk to meet him. Ronan pulled her into his arms, kissing her lips lingeringly.
“You’re staring,” Ivy smiled against his mouth.
“I can’t help it,” Ronan murmured, holding her hips gently. “You’re incredible.”
“Are we still on schedule for the wedding rehearsal tonight?” Ivy asked, straightening his tie.
“Everything is ready,” Ronan said softly. “My mother’s wedding gown was delivered to the estate this morning. Tailored exactly to your measurements.”

Ivy rested her cheek against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. “I love you, Ronan.”
“I love you, Ivy. More than life itself.”
