Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

Six months later.

Autumn had arrived in Boston, turning the trees in the Public Garden into brilliant shades of orange and gold.

On a private estate overlooking the ocean in Manchester-by-the-Sea, a small, elegant evening reception was taking place.

Eighty guests—a mixture of union leaders, local community figures, and reformed business executives—gathered under a massive white silk tent decorated with warm golden fairy lights.

At the head table sat Khloe Bennett, wearing an exquisite, custom-made emerald green velvet gown that hugged her curves with breathtaking elegance. Her dark hair cascaded over her shoulders in soft, glossy curls, and a delicate diamond pendant rested against her collarbone.

Beside her sat Dominic Costello, looking sharp and regal in a dark tuxedo.

There were no armed bodyguards standing in the shadows. There were no hidden pistols under jackets. The air was filled with laughter, light jazz music, and the delicious aroma of fresh artisan pastries prepared by Khloe’s bakery team.

Arthur Vance, the senior union representative, stood up, raising his champagne glass high into the air.

"To Khloe Bennett!" Arthur announced, his voice echoing warmly through the tent. "A woman who restored honor to our union pensions, dignity to our docks, and proved that real power isn't measured by muscle or guns, but by heart, intelligence, and unbreakable spirit!"

"To Khloe!" the entire crowd cheered in unison, raising their glasses.

Khloe smiled warmly, clinking her glass against Dominic’s.

Dominic leaned over, resting his arm over the back of her chair, his dark eyes looking at her with an intensity that still made her breath catch in her throat.

"You look stunning tonight, my Queen," Dominic whispered softly into her ear.

Khloe turned her head, a playful, brilliant smile touching her lips. "Queen? I thought I was just a plus-size waitress with a butter dish."

Dominic let out a low, velvety laugh, taking her soft hand in his and pressing a gentle kiss to her knuckles.

"You were always a queen, Khloe," Dominic said, his voice full of quiet, absolute devotion. "The rest of the world was just too blind to see the crown."

Khloe leaned into his side, watching the moon reflect over the dark, quiet waves of the Atlantic Ocean ahead.
