Chapter 5 - THE DEADLY REVELATION

For the next forty-eight hours, the Vale estate operated under a facade of normalcy. Mrs. Gable continued her daily routines, unaware that every step she took, every call she made, and every movement she made was being recorded by Adrian’s private intelligence team.

Elena remained inside the secure nursery, refusing to leave Liam’s side for even a minute. Adrian had placed two of his most elite personal bodyguards directly inside the suite, giving Elena direct access to his private line.

On Friday evening, Adrian entered the nursery alone. He wore a crisp dark suit, looking composed, powerful, and utterly lethal.

“The trap is set for tomorrow night,” Adrian informed her, walking over to the crib where Liam was cooing softly. “My men have intercepted the Moretti communication channels. We know exactly who Mrs. Gable was speaking to.”

“Who was it?” Elena asked, setting down a baby book.

“Dr. Marcus Reed,” Adrian revealed grimly.

Elena gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. “Dr. Reed? The chief pediatrician at Blackwood Memorial?”

“He was deeply in debt to the Moretti syndicate due to gambling addiction,” Adrian explained, his eyes cold. “They promised to erase his debts and pay him two million dollars if he ensured my heir never left the hospital alive. Mrs. Gable was the insider who facilitated the poison delivery into the hospital supply chain.”

Elena felt a sick disgust in her stomach. A doctor—someone who had sworn an oath to save lives—had agreed to murder an innocent newborn for money.

“What are you going to do to them?” Elena asked softly.

Adrian looked at her, his expression softening slightly. “They will face justice, Elena. My kind of justice.”

He stepped closer to her, looking down into her eyes. “I brought you something.”

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined box. He opened it to reveal a sleek, silver emergency tracking device designed as a delicate charm bracelet.

“Put this on,” Adrian said, taking her hand and fastening the bracelet around her wrist. “It has a built-in panic button and a real-time GPS tracker linked directly to my personal phone. If anyone comes near you or Liam tomorrow while I am handling the Moretti syndicate, press this button. I will be here in minutes.”

Elena looked at the sleek bracelet, then up at Adrian. The touch of his warm fingers against her skin sent a strange, exhilarating shiver down her spine. Over the past week, seeing his fierce devotion to his child and his unwavering determination to protect her, she had realized that her feelings for him had evolved into something far deeper than professional duty.

“Thank you, Adrian,” she whispered, using his first name naturally for the first time.

Adrian lingered close to her, his dark eyes searching her face. He raised his hand, his thumb gently brushing across her cheek, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

“I owe you everything, Elena,” Adrian murmured, his voice rich and deep. “You brought warmth into this cold house. You gave my son a chance to live. Once this war with Moretti is over... I want you to stay. Not as a nurse. As part of my life.”

Elena’s heart skipped a beat. She looked into the eyes of the city's most feared man and saw a deep, earnest vulnerability that touched her core.

“Hande this war first,” Elena said softly, a warm smile gracing her lips. “Then we’ll talk about the future.”

Adrian smiled—a genuine, rare smile that transformed his sharp face into something extraordinarily handsome. He leaned down and pressed a tender, lingering kiss to her forehead.

“Keep him safe until I return,” Adrian said softly before turning and leaving the room to prepare for the coming storm.
