Chapter 7 - THE RECKONING

The room erupted into absolute bedlam.

Adrian Vale slammed through the broken window frame like an vengeful demon, his tactical shotgun booming in the confined space. The blast struck the mercenary in the chest, hurling him backward through the doorway.

“Get down!” Adrian roared, his voice cutting through the sounds of gunfire and thunder.

Elena instantly ducked into the recessed corner behind the heavy oak wardrobe, covering little Liam with her entire body as bullets tore through the air above them.

Adrian moved with lethal precision. He swept through the nursery, neutralizing the remaining intruders in seconds.

Dr. Reed panicked, dropping the syringe and attempting to scramble toward the broken window to escape onto the balcony. Adrian caught him by the back of his collar, slamming the doctor viciously onto the wooden floorboards.

“Please! Adrian! Mercy!” Dr. Reed shrieked, cowering on his knees as blood poured from his broken nose.

Adrian placed the hot barrel of his shotgun directly against Dr. Reed’s forehead. His face was covered in rain and gunpowder, his eyes burning with absolute, terrifying fury.

“You broke your medical oath to murder my son,” Adrian growled, his voice deep as thunder. “There is no mercy for you in this world.”

BANG!

A single shot ended Dr. Reed’s life.

Across the room, Mrs. Gable tried to slip through the side exit into the servant corridors, but two of Adrian’s tactical guards blocked her path, seizing her arms and forcing her to her knees on the wet floor.

Adrian turned slowly toward Mrs. Gable, his boots clicking heavily against the glass-strewn floor.

“I gave you twenty years of trust, Gable,” Adrian said softly, his voice more terrifying in its quietness than any scream. “I paid for your home, your children’s education, and your retirement.”

Mrs. Gable looked up, her face pale with terror. “They... they threatened my family, Mr. Vale! The Moretti family held my son hostage! I had no choice!”

“You always had a choice,” Adrian spat coldly. “You could have come to me. Instead, you chose to put poison in my son’s food.”

He turned to his chief security officer. “Take her to the lower levels. Ensure she tells us every detail of the Moretti network before she is handed over to the authorities.”

“Yes, boss,” the guard replied, dragging the weeping woman out of the room.

Silence fell over the destroyed nursery. The wind and rain swept through the shattered windows, blowing the curtains wildly around the dark room.

Adrian dropped his weapon, ignoring the cuts on his face from the shattered glass. He turned urgently toward the wardrobe corner.

“Elena!” Adrian called out, his voice laced with desperate panic. “Elena!”

Elena slowly stood up from behind the wardrobe. She was trembling, covered in plaster dust, but she held Liam securely against her chest. The baby was crying loudly from the noise, but he was completely unharmed.

Adrian rushed over, wrapping his strong arms around both of them, pulling them tightly against his heart.

“Are you alright? Are you hurt?” Adrian asked frantically, inspecting her face, her arms, and then gently checking Liam from head to toe.

May you like

“We’re okay,” Elena sobbed softly, resting her head against his chest, hearing his rapid, powerful heart beating against her cheek. “You came back.”

“I told you,” Adrian whispered, kissing her hair deeply as tears mixed with the rain on his face. “Nothing in this world will ever tear us apart.”
