Chapter 6 - THE BETRAYAL

By afternoon, news reached the estate that Victor Vance had launched a retaliatory strike, targeting a restaurant owned by one of Adrian’s lieutenants.
Sarah sat in the estate conservatory, watching Lily draw pictures with colored pencils at a nearby table.
A quiet knock sounded on the glass door, and Adrian stepped inside.
"Sarah," Adrian said gently, taking a seat across from her. "We need to talk about your future."
Sarah looked up, anxiety etched across her features. "Are we going to have to leave the country?"
"No," Adrian said firmly. "You are never going to run again. Today, my legal team filed paperwork to secure a restraining order against Ethan, and I have acquired the deed to your house on Maple Street. It will be demolished, and a new property built in a secure gated community under your name."
Sarah stared at him, overwhelmed by his generosity. "Adrian... I can't accept all this. It's too much."
"Your husband gave me twenty years of my life, Sarah," Adrian said. "This is nothing."
Suddenly, the glass windows of the conservatory vibrated as a heavy siren sounded from the main courtyard!
Marcus ran into the room, his weapon drawn!
"Boss! We have a breach!" Marcus yelled. "Ethan... he had a tracker on Sarah's coat!"
Sarah gasped, her hand flying to her throat. "My coat... Ethan gave me that coat for my birthday!"
Before anyone could react, heavy automatic gunfire erupted from the front gates!
A fleet of five black pickup trucks belonging to the Red Syndicate crashed through the perimeter fences, pouring dozens of armed mercenaries onto the estate lawn!
Victor Vance himself stepped out of the lead truck, holding a heavy shotgun, his face twisted in a monstrous grin!
"VALE!" Vance roared across the courtyard. "BRING OUT THE GIRL AND THE WOMAN, OR I'LL BURN THIS PALACE TO THE GROUND!"
Adrian’s expression transformed instantly from gentle protector to terrifying predator.
He stood up, looking down at Sarah. "Take Lily into the panic room behind the library bookshelf. Lock it from the inside."
"Adrian, no!" Sarah cried, grabbing his arm. "They have too many men!"

Adrian looked down at her hand on his sleeve, his dark eyes glowing with lethal intent.
"They brought war to my home, Sarah," Adrian whispered softly, kissing her knuckles gently. "Now watch how I end it."
