Chapter 10 - Legacy of the Light

That evening, after the guests had departed and Nona Elena had retired to her guest suite, the villa settled into a tranquil, peaceful silence.

A soft, cool night breeze drifted through the open French doors of the nursery, bringing with it the sweet scent of night-blooming jasmine from the garden below.

I stood beside the wooden crib, watching little Leo sleep peacefully on his stomach, his tiny fists curled beside his head, his breathing soft and rhythmic.

Adrian stepped quietly into the room, barefoot, wearing simple grey lounge pants. He stood beside me, laying his arm over my shoulders, looking down at our sleeping son.

"I used to think that the Ashcroft bloodline was cursed," Adrian said softly, his voice barely above a whisper so as not to wake the baby. "I thought greed and violence were built into the foundation of everything my family touched."

I reached up, wrapping my arm around his waist, resting my head against his shoulder. "Blood doesn't define a family, Adrian. Choices do. Lucinda chose power and fear. You chose love and protection."

"You saved me, Maya," Adrian whispered, turning his head to press a gentle kiss into my hair. "If you hadn't walked into my office three years ago with your audit ledgers and your fierce, uncompromising eyes, I would have ended up just like them—cold, isolated, and consumed by the family war."

"You saved yourself the moment you decided to trust me," I replied, looking up into his gray eyes, which now held only warmth and profound peace. "You built a shield around me when the whole world was trying to tear me down."

"And I will keep building it," Adrian promised, his tone ringing with the absolute finality of an eternal vow. "For as long as I draw breath, no one will ever hurt you or our children again."

We stood together by the crib, holding each other in the soft, warm light of the nursery, watching the future sleep peacefully in front of us.

The iron chains were gone. The stone cellar was dust. The dark secrets of the past were buried forever beneath the roses.

And in their place stood a family born of fire, bound by truth, and illuminated by an unbreakable, everlasting light.
