Chapter 8 - The Birth of Leo

The private birthing suite at St. Jude’s Medical Center was filled with the soft, warm glow of late afternoon sunlight filtering through the large glass windows overlooking the city.
The air was filled with gentle orchestral music, the faint scent of lavender oil, and the fierce, incredible energy of new life.
"Push, Maya! One more time! You’re right there!" Dr. Aris urged from the foot of the bed.
I gripped the handles of the bed, my face flushed, tears of agonizing effort streaming down my cheeks. Every muscle in my body burned, but I refused to give up. I had survived stone staircases, iron chains, and federal conspiracies—I was going to bring my son into this world with everything I had.
Adrian was right beside me, holding my upper body, his arm supporting my back, his face soaked in tears as he whispered fiercely into my ear:
"You can do this, Maya! You are the strongest woman in the world! Push, my love! Bring our boy home!"
With a final, roaring burst of strength that pulled from the very depths of my soul, I pushed.
And then, the world stopped.
A loud, clear, miraculous cry burst through the room—a sharp, healthy voice declaring his arrival to the universe.
"We have a healthy baby boy!" Dr. Aris announced joyfully, holding up a beautiful, golden-skinned infant with a thick mop of dark hair. "Born at 4:12 PM, weighing seven pounds, eight ounces!"
I fell back against the pillows, gasping for air, tears pouring unchecked down my face as the medical team quickly swaddled him in a soft warm blanket and laid him directly onto my bare chest.
The moment his tiny, warm body touched my skin, he stopped crying. His small, dark eyes opened slowly, looking up at me with profound, innocent wonder.
"Oh... oh, my sweet boy," I sobbed softly, wrapping my trembling arms around him, pressing my lips to his soft, dark hair. "Hi... hi, my baby."
Adrian collapsed into the chair beside the bed, burying his face in his hands for a second as deep, overwhelming sobs wracked his body. The powerful, terrifying Don of Vantage Shield wept like a child in the presence of the miracle lying on my chest.
After a moment, he lifted his head, wiping his face with his sleeve, and reached out a trembling finger.
Our tiny son immediately reached out his minuscule hand, his dark fingers wrapping tightly around his father’s index finger with a surprisingly firm grip.
Adrian let out a breathless, tearful laugh, leaning down to press his forehead against mine, his arm wrapping around both of us.
"He has your grip, Adrian," I whispered, smiling through my tears.
"He has his mother's courage," Adrian replied, his voice thick with devotion. "What are we going to name him?"
I looked down at our beautiful son, who was resting peacefully against my heart, safe from every storm the world could offer.
May you like
"Leo," I said softly. "Leo Adrian Vieri. Because he fought like a lion before he was even born."
"Leo," Adrian repeated, his eyes shining with absolute adoration as he kissed my lips, then kissed our son’s forehead. "Welcome to the family, Leo."
