Chapter 9 - The Vieri Estate

Six months later.

The historic Ashcroft Mansion in the suburbs of the city was no more.

Adrian had purchased the entire property from the federal bankruptcy trustee, torn down the gloomy stone walls, filled in the dark coal cellars, and built a magnificent, sunlit villa surrounded by rolling green lawns, blooming fruit orchards, and open playgrounds.

It was re-named Villa Esperanza—The Villa of Hope.

The main building now served as the international headquarters for the newly restructured Vieri Children's Trust, funded by the fully recovered forty-eight million dollars. The mansion that had once been a symbol of aristocratic greed and corruption was now a haven providing free pediatric surgery, housing, and legal protection for underprivileged mothers and children across the nation.

On a beautiful, warm summer afternoon, the terrace of the villa was filled with laughter, music, and the delicious aroma of roasted meats and fresh Italian herbs.

Nona Elena sat in a comfortable rocking chair under the shade of a large oak tree, cradling six-month-old Leo in her arms, singing soft traditional lullabies as the baby gurgled happily, reaching for her silver necklace.

Luca and Victoria Chen—who had surprisingly become quite close during the federal trials—sat at an outdoor table reviewing expansion plans for a new clinic in Milan, laughing over glasses of chilled prosecco.

I stood near the edge of the terrace, wearing a light yellow summer dress, a cold glass of lemonade in my hand, watching my family thrive under the warm sun.

Adrian walked out from his study, wearing a casual navy linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He carried no radios, no secure tablets, and no weapons. The heavy armor of his past had been laid down, replaced by the deep, peaceful fulfillment of a man who had secured everything that truly mattered.

He walked over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder as we watched Nona playing with our son.

"He looks more like you every day," Adrian murmured, kissing my neck.

"He has your dark hair and your stubborn jaw," I teased gently, leaning back against his broad chest. "Dr. Aris says he’s already trying to stand up in his crib."

"Of course he is," Adrian chuckled softly. "He has an empire to run eventually."

"A legal, charitable empire," I corrected with a smile.

"A legal, charitable empire," Adrian agreed smoothly.

He turned me around in his arms, looking into my dark eyes with that intense, unwavering devotion that had saved my life in the darkest basement in the world.

"Do you ever miss the thrill of forensic auditing?" Adrian asked, a subtle, playful smirk touching his lips.

"Are you kidding?" I laughed, leaning my hands against his chest. "Managing the Vieri Trust budget is the biggest forensic audit of my life. And I have a boss who is exceptionally demanding."

"Is he?" Adrian whispered, stepping closer, closing the distance between us. "How does this demanding boss treat his favorite auditor?"

"He buys her flowers, builds her villas, and kisses her in front of the guests," I whispered back, my heart fluttering just as it had the very first day I met him.

Enzo leaned down, pressing his lips to mine in a slow, sweet, passionate kiss that carried the promise of a lifetime of safety, love, and joy.
