Chapter 8 - The Statement

That afternoon, Ethan and Clara held a private press conference at the Caldwell Global headquarters in downtown San Francisco. Over fifty journalists, television camera crews, and corporate reporters filled the auditorium, their cameras flashing continuously as Ethan walked onto the stage holding Clara’s hand firmly in his.
Ethan stepped up to the podium, leaning down toward the microphones, his face calm, authoritative, and proud.
"Thank you all for coming," Ethan began, his voice echoing clearly across the room. "For the past three weeks, there has been immense public speculation regarding my family, my late fiancée Vanessa Sterling, and the survival of my wife, Clara Caldwell."
He paused, looking down at Clara, who was sitting in a leather chair beside the podium, looking serene and dignified in a sharp navy blazer.
"Two years ago, a horrific crime was committed against my family," Ethan continued, his dark eyes locking directly into the main news camera. "A political family used their power to attempt to destroy my wife's life in order to cover up massive corporate fraud. They believed that by isolating her, stripping her of her memory, and burying her under false identities, they could steal what belonged to her and control my family's legacy."
Ethan took the microphone from the stand, walking to the edge of the stage.

"They failed," Ethan declared firmly. "They failed because a mother’s love for her child cannot be erased by amnesia. They failed because my son recognized his mother through a gray servant’s uniform in a room full of two hundred people. And they failed because truth is an absolute force that no amount of money or political influence can forever suppress."
The auditorium erupted into a wall of camera flashes and urgent shouted questions from reporters, but Ethan simply turned his back on the crowd, walked over to Clara, offered her his hand, and guided her off the stage into the private executive suite.
